Krav Maga Books

Krav Maga, translated as "contact combat" in Hebrew, is a modern martial art and self-defense system developed in Israel that emphasizes practical techniques, instinctual movements, and real-world application. Rooted in the experiences of its founder and the needs of its practitioners, Krav Maga is renowned for its effectiveness in self-defense and its no-nonsense approach to personal protection.

The history of Krav Maga dates back to the turbulent period preceding the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Imi Lichtenfeld, a Hungarian-born Israeli martial artist and boxer, developed Krav Maga as a means of defending Jewish neighborhoods against anti-Semitic attacks in pre-World War II Europe.

During his time as a boxer and wrestler, Lichtenfeld realized the limitations of traditional martial arts in real-life combat situations. Drawing from his experiences and expertise, he began to develop a practical and efficient system of self-defense techniques that could be learned quickly and applied effectively by individuals of all ages and abilities.

After immigrating to Palestine in the late 1930s, Lichtenfeld began teaching his new system of self-defense to members of the Jewish community, including paramilitary organizations such as the Haganah and Palmach. His techniques were further refined and adapted to meet the unique challenges of urban combat and street fighting.

Following the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, Lichtenfeld continued to develop and teach Krav Maga to the Israeli military and law enforcement agencies. His system of self-defense gained widespread recognition for its practicality, effectiveness, and adaptability to various combat scenarios.

In the decades that followed, Krav Maga evolved from a military combat system into a civilian self-defense program, with organizations such as the Israeli Krav Maga Association (IKMA) and Krav Maga Worldwide (KMW) promoting and disseminating its techniques worldwide.

Today, Krav Maga is practiced and taught in countries around the globe, with millions of individuals learning its techniques for personal protection, self-defense, and physical fitness. Its focus on instinctual movements, situational awareness, and rapid, decisive action make it a popular choice for individuals seeking practical and effective self-defense skills.
