The Secret of Kung Fu Book by Ark Yuey Wong (Preowned)
The Secret of Kung-Fu is a substantial vintage martial arts manual by pioneering Chinese-American Kung Fu master Ark Yuey Wong. First published around 1969–1970, the book documents Wong's teachings at a time when authentic Chinese martial arts instruction in English was still relatively uncommon.
The book covers a broad range of traditional Southern Chinese Kung Fu, combining explanations with hundreds of photographs and illustrations. Wong demonstrates forms, stances, strikes, self-defense applications, partner exercises, breathing and internal training, and traditional conditioning methods. Material includes unusual animal and fighting methods such as Tiger, Snake, Monkey, Chicken and Elephant techniques, along with extensive demonstrations by Wong and his students.
More than simply an instructional manual, the book is an important historical record of the early development of Kung Fu in the United States. Wong became known as an early Chinese master willing to teach non-Chinese students, making his books among the earlier English-language publications documenting Southern Chinese martial arts.
