This video is a recording of a special lecture held in Tokyo in July 1999 to commemorate Koichi Tohei's 80th birthday.

In the lecture, entitled "How to live in harmony with heaven and earth: Gaining the strength to survive in any era," he spoke about Ki and the unity of mind and body.

About the Instructor:

Koichi Tohei (藤平光一, 1920–2011) was a highly influential Japanese Aikido master and one of the foremost disciples of Aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba. Renowned for his expertise in both the technical and philosophical aspects of Aikido, Tohei was the first person to be awarded the rank of 10th-degree black belt by Ueshiba, a rare distinction recognizing his exceptional mastery of the art.

Tohei is credited with bringing significant contributions to Aikido by incorporating the concept of Ki (気), which refers to life energy, into training. He emphasized mind and body coordination and developed a distinctive teaching approach that focused on connecting with this energy in both martial arts and daily life. In 1974, Tohei founded the Ki Society, an organization dedicated to the practice of Ki-Aikido and the philosophical teachings of Ki.

His teachings on Ki-Aikido, which emphasize the practical application of Ki for self-development and harmony, have influenced countless students worldwide, solidifying his legacy as a spiritual and technical pioneer in the martial arts world.
