The founder of Kento-ryu, Raifu Hibino, was born in Kagoshima in the first year of Genji. At the age of five, he trained in swordsmanship and Iaido in Musashi, Kanto. He repeatedly defeated strong opponents and was recognized as one of Japan's three greatest swordsmen. In the 22nd year of Meiji, he announced his results of his training as the Kento-ryu Battojutsu. Based on rationalism, it became the foundation of Iaido and Battojutsu.
