Before the war, High Technical School Judo thrived as the "standing technique Kodokan" and "ground technique technical college," with ground techniques reflecting dedicated practice translating directly into skill, unlike standing techniques which often rely more on natural talent. Aspiring to master judo techniques that could overcome differences in physique and weight through skill alone, the Bedwork Research Society emerged. They inherited the legendary skills of the late Master Kanae Hirata, renowned for mastering the essence of ground techniques, and continue to innovate with new techniques to this day.
