About the Instructor:
Born in Chiba Prefecture in 1941. He was trained in kendo by Fukuoka Meihanshi, a graduate of Shudo Gakuin. After graduating from Sosa High School, he began working at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He served as the police department's chief kendo instructor before retiring in 2000. He was involved from the beginning in formulating the basic kendo technique training method using a wooden sword, and is also working to popularize the sport. He is currently executive director of the All Japan Kendo Dojo Federation and a lecturer at the Nippon Budokan Budo Gakuen. He is an 8th dan kendo master.
