Although technically not a "weapon" the cane, when skillfully employed, can be an extremely effective self-defense tool. From ancient times, people of many different cultures around the world have carried staffs, canes, walking sticks, and umbrellas of different shapes, sizes, and materials. For centuries, those items were also found to be useful for defending oneself against man or beast.
