Busen Arakawa was the most senior student of Kanki Izumikawa of the Senbukan dojo which he joined in 1949.

In 1955 he opened the Suginami branch dojo of the Senbukan and in 1957 he received the title of Renshi from the Dai Nippon Butokukai. From an early age he was quite proficient with the nunchaku and called upon to do demonstrations at various events.

In 1964 he went to Hawaii with Kanki Izumikawa to act as an assistant. Izumikawa went to Hawaii to instruct at the branch dojo that was established there.

In 1965 Busen Arakawa renamed his dojo to Rinbukan. He studied kobudo extensively with Shinken Taira and was named a shihan of Ryukyu kobudo. Arakawa also served on the board of directors for Taira’s organization. In 1966 he was awarded 7th dan by Kanki Izumikawa, which is the highest rank he issued to any of his students.

Arakawa was the founder of Sokan-Ryu Kobudo and authored two books and a series of booklets on the subject. In 1990 he relocated the Rinbukan dojo to Chiba prefecture. His two main students were Sosen Nanao and Soushin Kobayashi.

This style created by Arakawa Busen is called Sokan Ryu Kobudo.

Arakawa Sensei is known as "God of the Nunchaku."
